The ChÔøΩne chapelle or chapel oak an oak tree located in Allouville-Bellefosse in Seine-Maritime France seen here in the 19th century. The tree was struck by lightning when it was nearly 500 years old and the resulting fire burned slowly through the center and hollowed the tree out. The local Abbot and village priest declared this a holy event and built a place of pilgrimage devoted to the Virgin Mary in the hollow. The chapel above and the staircase above were added afterwards.
